How to Contribute

This handbook is built by Soho Yard residents. Here's how you can help improve it.

Option 1: Edit directly on GitHub (easiest)

Every page has an “Edit this page on GitHub” link at the bottom. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Click the “Edit this page on GitHub” link on any page
  2. You’ll be taken to GitHub — sign in or create a free account if you don’t have one
  3. Make your changes in the editor (it’s just plain text with simple formatting)
  4. Scroll down and click “Propose changes”
  5. On the next screen, click “Create pull request”
  6. A maintainer will review and merge your change

That’s it. Your change will appear on the site within a few minutes of being approved.

Option 2: Open an issue

If you’d rather not edit directly, you can open an issue on GitHub describing what needs changing. Someone else will pick it up.

Good issues include:

  • “The gym hours on the gym page are wrong — it’s actually 6am-10pm”
  • “Can someone add info about the bike storage?”
  • “The pet deposit amount has changed”

Option 3: Message the group

Drop a message in the WhatsApp group and tag a maintainer. We’ll update the handbook for you.

Formatting basics

Pages are written in Markdown — a simple way to format text:

## Heading

**Bold text** and *italic text*

- Bullet point
- Another bullet point

| Column 1 | Column 2 |
|:---------|:---------|
| Data | Data |

Guidelines

  • Be accurate — only add information you’re confident about
  • Cite your source — mention if info comes from the handbook, management, or personal experience
  • Keep it friendly — this is a community resource, not a complaints board
  • No personal info — don’t include anyone’s name, flat number, or contact details without their permission
